Posca is a former slave and aide du camp to Gaius Julius Caesar until his death, and became political advisor to Mark Antony. He is the husband of Jocasta.

Personality[]

Starting out as a close advisor to Caesar, as the series progresses he becomes a political player himself. It is shown that despite the fixed marriage he cares about his young wife, perhaps in small part to having helped cause the death of her family.

Season 1[]

Posca is present with Caesar throughout the Gallic Wars.

Season 2[]

Posca awakens and finds Caesar's body in the senate house, crying solemnly over his death. Later, at Caesar's villa, Posca reads Caesar's will, containing his adoption of Gaius Octavian as own son, as well as Posca's freedom. Later, as Anthony leaves Rome to take over Mutina, Posca accompanies him, becoming his political advisor.

Trivia[]

  • A literal Latin translation for a male body slave would be Servus Corporis.
  • A normal Latin term for a body slave was an Ammanuensis, which is translated as "within hand's reach".
  • 'Posca' was a name given to a traditional Roman drink of watered down wine. This was especially popular among the lower classes and soldiers. Given that Posca was aide de camp to Caesar, who marketed himself to the lower classes, and during his military campaigns, his name is something of a joke.
